On U.S.-China CCUS Workshop Xinjiang was held in Luxemon Xinjiang Yin Du hotel, Urumqi on September 28th, 2014. The workshop was sponsored by the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service, the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy and U.S. Department of State and organized by the Clean Air Task Force and American National Standards Institute.Mr Arken, Committee Member of CPC Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and Max Baucus, US ambassador to China, delivered welcome speech.
The attendees discussed how to develop CCUS industry in Xinjiang, and exchanged the in-depth views from the three themes:
1. To start with sources of CO2 that avoid high capture costs,
2. To form China-US CCUS business partnerships,
3. To establish a regional network of pipelines and EOR storage sites.
Speakers from ECP member companies, Mr Mark Schoenfield, vice-president of Jupiter Oxygen Corporation, and Mr. Zhuang Qianlin, Chief Technology Licensing Advisor from KBR presented The keynote speech, the topics were “Oxy-combustion and Xinjiang Province CCUS” and “TRIGTM: A Unique Gasification Technology for Low Rank Coal and Carbon Management”, respectively. Moreover, Attendees from some other companies also gave keynote speeches: Dr.Bruce Hill, the Chief Geologist from the Clean Air Task Force presented the “Maximizing EOR Opportunities and CO2 Storage Potential in Xinjiang”, and Daniel Goldman, the President and Chief financial Officer from GreatPoint Energy presented the xinjiang CCUS project, and answered several relevant questions respectively. Other ECP membership companies such as GE and Peabody attended the workshop. Leaders from foreign affairs office in Autonomous Regions, Territory Resource Bureau, Science and Technology Bureau, Coal Mining Administration and National Energy Administration Xinjiang Supervision Office, and other enterprises’ representatives from thirty-two main energy chemical industry also attended the workshop.
Director of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Development and Reform Commission and Director of Supporting Xinjiang Office, Mr. Zhang Chunlin attended the workshop and delivered a speech which focus on introducing the key issues in energy development, energy conservation and emission reduction, and proposed to work on further cooperation between Xinjiang and US energy and environmental protection:
1. To establish and improve the long-term cooperation mechanism, built energy exchange platform.
2. To promote the communication and cooperation between US-China enterprises, share the achievements and achieve the win-win situation.
