The Renewable Energy and Smart Grid Working Groups of US-China Energy Cooperation Program (ECP) released the “US Wind Farm Operation Best Practices” study and “The Comparison Study of US, Europe and China PV Grid Integration Standards” at the 3rd US-China Energy Industry Forum held in Shanghai on July 31, 2013.

Led by ECP Renewable Energy Working Group co-chair UPC Renewables and members UL and GE, the “US Wind Farm Operation Best Practices” study serve as a reference guide for Chinese wind farm operators by introducing the key US standards related to preliminary work of wind farm development, construction, operation and management as well as the standards of wind turbines and control systems. The “Comparison Study of US, Europe and China PV grid integration” was produced by UL, together with the China Electricity Council and China Electric Power Research Institute. The study compares critical items, ranging from power quality to communication, with the purpose of serving as a reference for China’s development of policies, standards and utility permission procedures for PV power systems as well as to recommend potential international standards based on Chinese technical specifications. Both reports were supported by China National Energy Administration (NEA) and US Department of Energy (DOE).

The release of the reports highlights ECP annual support for bilateral US-China Renewable Energy Industry Forum, which is organized by DOE and NEA. Hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, this year’s event was attended by over 100 representatives from both the US and Chinese governments, industry, and academia who joined in the discussion on how the US and Chinese renewable sectors can foster win-win collaboration. US DOE Assistant Secretary David Danielson and NEA Deputy Director General of Department of New and Renewable Energy Liang Zhipeng served as the key note-speakers at the event that was also supported by the American Council on Renewable Energy, China Renewable Energy Industries Association and Energy Research Institute of NDRC.

In addition to UPC Renewables, UL, and GE, ECP Renewable Energy and Smart Grid Working Group members Baker Botts, Honeywell, and IBM, served as speakers on the panels on finance, large scale solar and wind development, and grid integration- distributed energy generation. ECP members Applied Materials, Dow Chemical, FloDesign, ICF and Timken also participated in the forum.
